West Garrett films his whole life. The split dodge from X at five forty-five in the morning, the championship banner over the athletic center door, the team house at 14 River Street where his lacrosse brothers make eggs and sing The Killers wrong. He shows up to a seminar he took for the credits with a twelve-dollar notebook he doesn't know how to fill, and the teaching assistant grading his papers is the girl from Brooklyn he stopped paying attention to two years ago. He never said her name out loud after that. She walks across the quad now and doesn't look up.

Drew Tanner built a wall. She built it the careful way she builds everything, with evidence and precision, around the freshman who treated her like a draft he could crumple. Now she's a senior with a thesis on who holds the camera and three fellowship applications lined up like dominoes, and West Garrett is a name third on her seminar roster, sitting in the room she has to walk through fourteen times. The wall was supposed to be load-bearing. It has a window in it she didn't install.

He has a season to prove the change is structural and not decorative. She has a future in New York that doesn't require a boy from Greenwich, a thesis that needs defending, and a father whose only word for goodbye is "be good." When West's father comes to campus to evaluate the investment, and a defenseman from Massapequa says out loud the thing West already knows about himself, the old architecture cracks down the middle, and Drew has to decide whether what she's been watching since September holds under pressure.

A slow, specific college lacrosse romance about carelessness and attention, the difference between performing change and proving it, and learning to be in the frame instead of behind it.
